OXFORD, Miss. Junior setter Rachel Kieckhaefer was named as an All-Region Honorable Mention selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organization announced on Thursday.

Kieckhaefer is the second straight Rebel to earn regional recognition as Jaclyn Toohey was named an All-Region Honorable Mention selection last season.

“Rachel is very deserving of this type of recognition,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. “She did a great job of directing the team from her position as setter. She really improved vastly as our setter this year and I think that contributed in a large part of our success.”

Kieckhaefer turned in a masterful performance on the season from the setter position, serving as a team captain and quarterback on the floor for the Rebels. Kieckhaefer broke into the top five on the career assists list in her third season as she has posted 2,816 assists for her career. Her 1,259 assists this season is sixth all-time at Ole Miss. The Hartford, Wisc., native turned in four triple-doubles on the season, including two against Alabama. She also finished a kill short of a triple-double on three other occasions.

Kieckhaefer was named Player of the Week on Monday as the final weekly award winner for the 2007 season after helping lead the Rebels to a pair of 3-0 wins over Auburn and Georgia.

Ole Miss completed one of the most successful seasons in school history as the Rebels made the second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the only two NCAA Tournament appearances in school history. Ole Miss also finished third in the Southeastern Conference and second in the Western Division.
