INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Ole Miss track and field junior Brittney Reese was named the USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week after claiming the individual titles in the long jump and high jump last weekend at the Arkansas State Kickoff Classic.

The 2007 NCAA long jump runner-up as a sophomore, Reese achieved automatic NCAA qualifying marks in both the long jump and high jump in the opening meet of the season for the Lady Rebels.  Reese posted a mark of 1.86 meters/6-01.25 in the high jump before leaping 6.45 meters/21-02.25 in the long jump.

The SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Year, Reese competed for Team USA in the long jump at the 2007 World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Osaka, Japan, where her personal-best jump of 6.83meters/22-5 in the qualifying round earned her a spot in the final. She was the top U.S. finisher in the event, placing eighth.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
