Big Week Ahead For Ole Miss Men's Tennis

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team, up a spot to No. 4 in this week’s national rankings, will travel to Evanston, Ill., to face Northwestern in its final tune-up before heading to Chicago for the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor. The Rebels are led by All-Americans Erling Tveit and Eric Claesson. Claesson has won 11 dual matches in a row dating back to last season. He rallied to win his match against
Depth is the key word for the Rebels this season, and already two of the three newcomers are making an impact. Sophomore Jonas Berg and freshman Kalle Norberg have combined to go 16-0 in singles and doubles in the first six matches. German standout Matthias Wellermann will make his debut in the first round of the National Team Indoor.
Northwestern comes into the match ranked No. 40 in the nation with a 5-3 overall record. They are coming off a 4-3 win at Harvard. The Wildcats have faced six nationally ranked teams, including No. 10 Pepperdine, and are 3-3 against ranked foes. The Wildcats are led by a pair of seniors, Willy Lock and Christian Tempke.

Following Wednesday’s match, Ole Miss will begin play in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor, Friday. The Rebels earned the No. 5 seed in the 16-team field and will face the No. 12 seed,

Ole Miss owns the third longest consecutive appearance streak in the nation behind perennial powers UCLA and Duke. The Rebels have reached the semifinals of this event two of the last three years and four times overall.
