Aly Presswood Out For The Season

2/14/2007 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. Freshman first baseman Aly Presswood will miss the remainder of the 2007 season after injuring her right knee in the seventh inning of the Houston game on Saturday, announced Ole Miss softball head coach Missy Dickerson on Wednesday.

Presswood, who started the first four games for the Rebels, tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus in her knee after colliding with the Houston first baseman and hitting the bag awkwardly on a groundout.

“Aly will have surgery on her knee within the next two weeks and be out for four to six months,” said athletic trainer Chad Perkins. “We expect her to make a full recovery and be ready to return to action by next fall.”

The Keller, Texas, native hit .273 with a double, RBI and stolen base through her first four collegiate contests. She helped Ole Miss set a school record with six doubles in a 9-1 run-rule win over Texas-Arlington on Saturday.

“Not having Aly’s participation will be a loss for our team this year,” Dickerson said. “It’s important to know that she should make a full recovery, though. The good thing is we have a versatile group of players who can play a variety of positions.”
