Ole Miss Women's Tennis To Host Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday

2/19/2007 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss women’s tennis team will host Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.  In case of inclement weather, the match will be held at the Gillom Sports Center.

The Lady Rebels, who continue to battle injuries, will look to rebound from a tough 4-3 loss at home to Troy last Saturday.  Ole Miss won the doubles point and got victories at Nos. 1 and 4 singles, but Troy pulled out a three-setter at No. 2 singles which proved to be the difference.

Two bright spots for the Lady Rebels this season have been the play of senior Ilona Somers and freshman Soledad Podlipnik.  Somers heads into Wednesday’s match off to a 6-0 start at No. 1 singles and 10-2 in singles and doubles combined.   Podlipnik owns a 6-1 record in dual matches.

Louisiana-Lafayette moved to 6-0 on the year with a 6-1 win over Lamar University last Thursday.  The Ragin’ Cajuns are led by seniors Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer.

Admission to all home matches is free, and live scoring is available at www.olemisssports.com.
