Lady Rebel Netters Fall To No. 20 Texas 6-1
2/9/2007 | Women's Tennis
With only five players available, the Lady Rebels would have to win the top two doubles spots to take the point. Ilona Somers and Kseniia Tokarieva posted an 8-5 win against UT’s Sarah Lancaster and Courtney Zauft at No. 1 doubles, but the Longhorns took the No. 2 match 8-5 to clinch the point.
The Longhorns raced out to big leads on all five singles courts and Ole Miss could never recover. After Ole Miss had to default the No. 6 singles match because of injury, UT gained straight-set victories on courts three and five to seal the win.
Somers improved to 4-0 at No. 1 singles with a comeback win against UT’s Petra Dizar. The lone senior on the team lost the first set 6-4, but won the second 7-5. Since the overall match was already decided they played a supertiebreaker, which Somers prevailed 15-13.
