Lady Rebel Netters Fall To Auburn 6-1

3/11/2007 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team fell to Auburn 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center to drop to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the SEC.  Auburn improved to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the SEC.

The Lady Rebels fell behind early after losing the doubles point.  Nika Koukhartchouk and Soledad Podlipnik posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles, but it was not enough, as Auburn rallied to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point.

In singles, Auburn gained quick victories at Nos. 3 and 5 to go up 3-0.  Ole Miss got on the board, when Podlipnik finished off her 6-2, 6-3 win over Whitney Chappell at No .4 singles.

It would not be enough as the Tiger’s Melissa Koning won a first set tiebreaker against Lady Rebel Tokarieva on court two and went on to claim the second set 6-2 for the clinching victory.

The remaining two matches went three sets with Auburn taking both for the final 6-1 score.

The Lady Rebels will travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on the South Alabama Jaguars Wednesday at 11 a.m.
