Rebel Hit The Road For First Spring Tournament

3/22/2007 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss volleyball team will hit the road this weekend to open the competition portion of its spring season as the Rebels will travel to Northern Illinois for the Huskies’ spring tournament.

The Rebels will face-off against eight teams in the weekend event and Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin looks to see continued growth out of his returning players from last season’s NCAA Tournament team.

“I am excited about the next phase of our spring training, as we get to compete against outside competition,” Getzin said. “This will allow us to see how much progress we’ve made up to this point. I’m very happy with our training and intensity in the gym. We are improving daily and making strides in our strength and conditioning as well.”

Up to this point, the team has been able to work on skills against themselves, but this weekend will see the team enter live action with new faces on the other side of the net.

Ole Miss will face eight squads, including the host Northern Illinois. The Rebels will also play matches against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Illinois-Chicago, Western Illinois, Lewis University, Kishwaukee Community College, and Illinois Central Community College.
