Overbeck Pushes Rebels Past Alabama 3-2 In 11 Innings

OXFORD, Miss. The Rebels came up on the winning side of a late inning rally on Saturday, using three-straight hits in the 11th as No. 13 Ole Miss (17-8, 2-3 SEC) pushed past No. 25 Alabama (17-9, 3-2 SEC) by a score of 3-2. The win evened the series at a game each heading into Sunday’s rubber-match.
Cody Overbeck came up with the game-winning single to score Justin Henry from third in the bottom of the 11th. It was the first hit of the day for the sophomore who came up to the plate with runners on second and third after a single from Henry and a double from Zack Cozart opened the inning.
Cody Satterwhite (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he worked 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and two walks. Satterwhite entered in the 10th in relief of starter Lance Lynn who worked a career-long 9.0 innings as he gave up two runs on six hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.

“(After last night) we challenged our guys to respond,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “You have to play your best every game in this league. In other leagues, you can play well and win two out of three, but in this league you can play well and still get swept.
“I asked Lance how he felt going into the ninth and he felt fine,” Bianco said. “He looked like he continued to get stronger as the game went on. His pitches looked strong and his curve continued to drop. I felt like he owned the inside of the plate today.”
Justin Henry came up with a two-out single in the third to score Evan Button from third and tie the game at one. Button reached on a fielder’s choice before moving to second on a single from Brett Basham and advancing to third on a fielder’s choice grounder to second from Jordan Henry.
Logan Power put the Rebels in the lead in the fifth with a solo home run down the left field line that hit the foul pole and put Ole Miss up 2-1.
With two outs in the 10th,
The Rebels then came up with the three big hits from Henry, Cozart and Overbeck to claim the win.
Power went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI as he hit his third home run of the season. Justin Henry went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and scored the winning run for the Rebels.
