LSU Downs Ole Miss Women's Tennis

BATON ROUGE, La. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team fell to division rival LSU 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium.  With the loss, the Lady Rebels dropped to 4-13 overall and 0-7 in the SEC, while LSU improved to 9-7 overall and 2-7 in league play.

 

LSU swept the doubles to take a 1-0 lead.  The Lady Rebels, who fell to 0-9 on the road this season, are now 10-51 since 2002 when losing the doubles point.

 

The Lady Tigers jumped on Ole Miss in singles and never let up winning five of the six matches in straight sets.  At No.1 singles, 97th-ranked Ilona Somers lost to the nation’s No. 2 ranked player, Megan Falcon, 6-1, 6-3.

 

In the only match that went three sets, LSU’s Staten Spencer defeated Lady Rebel Preethi Subramanian 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

 

The Lady Rebels conclude their road trip at Arkansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
