TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Ole Miss men’s senior golfer Chris Rogers shot a final round 70 to tie for third at the Seminole Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
Rogers finished the tournament with a 3-under 213 to earn his second career top-five and fourth top 10 finish. He fired an opening round 70 and then carded a 73 in the second round. Rogers eagled three par 5s in the tournament.
Despite Rogers play, the Rebels were not able to capitalize on Monday’s strong showing, falling to seventh in the team standings. The team appeared to be in good position to post a strong finish, going 6-under through the first 10 holes.
“Chris Rogers had another great tournament, finishing third in a great field,” head coach Ernest Ross said. “He played extremely well, making three eagles in three days. We will move up some in the rankings as far as the team. We are disappointed that we had an opportunity to take advantage of a good early start and couldn’t finish.”
Auburn shot a 1-under 287 in the final round (powered by two players in the top five) to overtake North Carolina for the team title. The Rebels did finish ahead of fellow SEC members LSU, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
The Rebels will return to the links March 12-13 at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate in Springfield, La.
