Florida Standouts Sign With Rebel Linksters

4/11/2007 | Men's Golf

OXFORD, Miss. Chris Mullhaupt of Bradenton, Fla., and Hunter Spitler, of Sarasota, Fla., have signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss men’s golf program, head coach Ernest Ross announced Wednesday.

Both are seniors at Pendleton High School in Bradenton, and will join the squad in the fall of 2007.

Mullhaupt has had numerous top-five finishes this season in regional and national tournaments.  He most recently won the Wedgefield Open in February on the Future Collegians World Tour.

“Chris is an excellent player who is well prepared to play college golf,” Ross said.   “He possesses great accuracy off the tee and an excellent short game.  I know he can come in and make an immediate contribution to our team.”

Spitler won the International Junior Golf Tour Bent Tree Junior and had two second places on the FCWT Junior Tour.

“Hunter hits it really long and solid,” Ross said.  “He has made great progress in the past year, and I know he will be a solid college golfer.  He has all the tools to be great.”

Mullhaupt and Spitler join fall signees and Mississippi natives Jonathan Randolph and Billy Brozovich as the 2007-08 signing class for Ole Miss.

The Rebels finished third at the Palisades Collegiate Golf Classic on Tuesday, and senior Callum Macaulay, with his second-place finish, earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors.   The team returns to the links April 20-22 at the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga.
