Oe Miss Track Hosts Mississippi Open

“I thought this was another fantastic meet,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “I thought the weather might have been worse than it was last week. We did a good job of overcoming the weather. We were able to record four new regional marks.”
The Rebels showed their strength in the jumps as the Ole Miss men swept the top three places in the long jump. Charles Bailey, who is ranked No. 2 in the SEC in the long jump, won with a mark of 24-07.25. Justin Gunn finished second with a personal best jump of 24-02.25, which qualifies him for the NCAA MidEast regional. Adewale Odetunde finished third with a mark of 24-01.75. Both Bailey and Odetunde had previously earned NCAA regional qualifying marks.
Britney Reese continued her domination of the long jump winning her third title in as many chances. Reese turned in a mark of 20-06.50. She holds a season best 21-07.50 and is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation.
Barnabas Kirui won the 5,000 meters with a NCAA qualifying time of time of 14:10.94. Kirui was just off his season best time of 14:09.38. He had previously qualified in the 5,000 meters. Kirui also finished second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.57.
All-American John Yarbrough was the top collegiate finisher in 110-meter hurdles in a time of 13.82, which is a NCAA regional qualifying time. Yarbrough had previously qualified in the 110-meter hurdles. Yarbrough finished second to former Ole Miss great and national champion Antwon Hicks. Hicks turned in a time of 13.63.
Gabriel Ngwiri won the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.87.
The Ole Miss men’s quartet of Anka Autman, Rickie Bratton, Michael Coleman and Rodney Lockhart won the 4x100-meter relay in a NCAA regional qualifying time of 40.37. It was the first regional qualifying mark of season for the 4x100-meter relay team.
James Maloney turned in a career best mark of 184-09 to win the men’s hammer throw. The throw was Maloney’s first NCAA regional qualifying mark in the hammer in his career.
Kenyata Coleman, Kadeshia Fortune, Kim Mulkey and Cachet Murray won the women’s 4x100-meter relay in a season best time of 45.11. The quartet had previously recorded a NCAA regional qualifying mark.
Coleman also turned in a NCAA regional qualifying time of 53.38 to finish as the top collegiate runner in the 400 meters. It was Coleman’s first 400 meter race this season.
Carmia Carroll won the women’s high jump with a mark of 5-07.00. The mark matched her season high.
Crystal Stewart turned in a mark of 167-02 to finish second in the hammer throw. Davina Orieukwu finished second in the women’s shot with a mark of 46-02.50. Derek McGuire recorded another NCAA regional qualifying mark in his victory in the shot put. McGuire posted a mark of 55-04.25.
