4/22/2007 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMON’S ISLAND,
The Rebels earned the program’s best finish in the SEC Championships since a tie for third in 1988. Sophomore Will Roebuck led Ole Miss, tying for fourth with a 69-75-72216 to mark the best individual finish for a Rebel since Brian Rowell earned second in 1996. Roebuck earned his second top-five and seventh top-10 finish of his career.
Senior Callum Macaulay carded a 75-71-73219 to tie for ninth, earning his seventh top-10 finish of the season. Chris Rogers, also a senior, fired a 1-under 69 in the final round to jump up to a tie for ninth with a 76-74-69219. He began the day with consecutive bogeys, but finished strong with three birdies on the back nine to grab his fifth top-10 of the year.
“We got off to a rocky start on the first three holes, but we hung in there,” head coach Ernest Ross said. We are proud of Chris Rogers to come back with a 69 and earn a top-10 finish. For Will to finish fourth as a sophomore is a fantastic feat. We put ourselves in a great position to make an NCAA Regional this year.”
The SEC is regarded as the top conference in the nation in men’s golf with seven teams coming into the tournament ranked in the Golfweek Top 50. The Rebels beat No. 1 Georgia and No. 5 Florida.
The NCAA Regional selections will be announced Monday, May 7 at 5 p.m. CT.
