SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
Mississippi State enters the weekend coming off a two-game sweep of Southern Miss in the mid-week, but a series loss to LSU last weekend. The Bulldogs are hitting .340 as a team and are led at the plate by Brandon Turner with a .444 average. Edward Easley leads in power with 10 home runs and 48 RBI. As a pitching staff, Mississippi State holds to a 5.36 ERA and is led by Chad Crosswhite's 3.24 ERA. Crosswhite has struck out 32 and walked 15 on the season as the Friday starter.
MISSISSIPPI STATE SERIES OUTLOOK:
Ole Miss enters the weekend looking to overtake the Bulldogs in the SEC standings and Western Division race, while Mississippi State hopes to put some distance between themselves and the Rebels in the overall standings and Western Division race. The Bulldogs hold a slight edge in the standings thanks to a pair of rainouts in Knoxville that puts Mississippi State two games short on the schedule.
THROUGH 43 GAMES IN 2006:
Through 43 games a year ago, the Rebels had posted an 28-15 record, perfectly even with this season's pace. Ole Miss was batting .311 as a team, while the pitching staff was holding to a 4.14 ERA through 380.1 innings pitched. The Rebels were 61-of-77 in steal attempts on the year and were coming off a 10-5 win over Tennessee in Oxford. Ole Miss had hit three fewer home runs with 34 on the year at the same point last season.
