Ole Miss Wins Four Drake Relays Titles

4/28/2007 | Track and Field

DES MOINES, Iowa All-American John Yarbrough won his second straight Drake Relays individual title and All-American Britney Reese won her second title in as many days to help led Ole Miss to four individual titles at the prestigious event.

“We really had a super relays,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “This was the best Drake Relays we have ever had. We won four individual titles this year. We only had won three in the history of the Drake Relays.”

Yarbrough turned in a career-best time of 13.43 to win the 110-meter hurdles. His time is the best in the nation this season and moves him closer to Antwon Hicks school record of 13.35. Yarbrough also defeated Texas Tech’s Marlon Odom, who previously held to the nation’s top time.

The second straight 110-meter hurdles title matches Tony Dees’ back-to-back victories in the hurdles in 1983 and 1984.

SEC Indoor long jump champion Britney Reese won her second event in as many days as she took home the long jump championship with a mark of 20-10.75. She is the first Lady Rebel to win a Drake Relays’ title.

Barnabas Kirui, the SEC cross country champion, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 8:48.28.

Sophomore Kadeshia Fortune recorded a NCAA regional qualifying mark with her time of 11.74 in the finals of the 100 meters. Fortune finished sixth overall.

The Rebels men’s distance medley relay team posted a season best time of 9:46.59 to finish second overall.
