Rebels Ranked No. 22 In Latest Trackwire Top 25

4/3/2007 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss men’s track and field team is ranked No. 22 in this week’s Trackwire 25 ranking of men’s track and field teams.

Trackwire uses a system to project a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country. This projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event.

Two Rebel athletes are ranked in the Dandy Dozen. Barnabas Kirui, the reigning SEC Cross Country champion, is ranked No. 4 in the nation in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. John Yarbrough, who earned All-America honors in the 110-meter hurdles last season, is also ranked No. 1 in the nation in the hurdles this season.

Lady Rebel Britney Reese is also ranked in the women’s Dandy Dozen list. Reese, who finished third in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships, is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in that event. Her best mark of the season is 21-09.50.

The Rebel men and women host the Ole Miss Invitational this Saturday April 8, at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.
