Rebel Golfer Callum Macaulay Earns All-SEC Honors
4/30/2007 | Men's Golf
The Kincardine, Scotland, native recently tied for ninth at the SEC Championships at Sea Island Golf Club to help lead the Rebels to a fourth place finish, their best showing at the conference tournament since the 1988 season (tied for third).
“It’s a great honor to be named All-SEC,” Macaulay said. “There are a lot of really good golfers in this conference, and it’s a privilege to be among them. We are excited about how we played in the SEC Tournament. It will mean a lot to me and the team to make an NCAA Regional. I am glad I was able to be a part of establishing the program for the future.”
Macaulay becomes the 16th Rebel to make the All-SEC team and the first since Jordan Dempsey earned the honor in 2005.
“It’s a tremendous recognition for Callum and all he’s accomplished,” head coach Ernest Ross said. His leadership helped our team move toward achieving many of our goals. He’s made a major contribution to the Ole Miss golf program.”
Macaulay owns six top-five and seven top-10 finishes on the season. He recorded his best 54-hole finish with the Rebels, taking second at the Palisades Collegiate Golf Classic to lead the team to its best 54-hole score of the year and a third place finish. He was rewarded by being named the SEC Player of the Week for the week of April 9.
The Rebels likely played their way into the NCAA Regionals with their showing at the SEC Championships, finishing ahead of No. 2 Georgia and No. 6 Florida.
The NCAA selections will be announced Monday, May 7 at 5 p.m. CT.
