OLE MISS HEAD COACH ED ORGERON
I am really pleased with the effort of our coaches and players today. We definitely treated this as a game. I thought it was a great crowd. I am really pleased to see all the fans. I thought this was a game-time atmosphere. It was a really cold day, but I thought it was a great atmosphere.
I have to give Coach Kehoe a lot of credit. That’s two years in a row for him to be the winning coach. He does a great job of motivating his team. Our team played hard on both sides. They competed really well. I am really pleased with the play of Seth (
We didn’t play BenJarvus (Green-Ellis), because it was the spring game. We didn’t want to take a chance on him getting hurt. It gave us a chance to run Cordera (Eason) and Bruce (Hall). They did really well today. Cordera is really improving as a football player. He is really taking off with the offense. He has made some big plays all spring.
I am really pleased with the play of the offensive line. We are bigger, stronger and more physical. John Jerry, Michael Oher, Corey Actis and Reid Neely are big guys. Maurice Miller is one of the strongest guys on the team. Corey is emerging as the leader at center. He’s making the calls and doing the right things.
We were not very physical in the middle of our defense today. Daverin Geralds had an excellent spring, but he went out early. That really hurt us. Peria Jerry is out. We have some guys coming in that will be more physical in the middle of our defense. I am really pleased with the effort of the coaching staff all spring. We played well as a team today.
What was the thing you were most excited about today?
Today, it was the play under center. For most of the spring, most of the quarterbacks have been consistent. We didn’t have as many dropped balls as in the past. The play of the receivers was big. They made some plays along with some other things.
Is the QB play all-inclusive or is it really just Seth Adams and Brent Schaeffer?
It’s not just between Seth and Brent. It’s open to everybody. Michael Herrick has stepped up. Cliff Davis is still in it. Obviously Jevan (Snead) would be in it. It’s an open quarterback competition and we are going to continue to treat it that way.
Does Seth grab a leg up on a day like this?
I think so. Seth definitely has a leg up. He’s made the right decisions, and he’s continuing to improve.
Talk about Shay Hodge, Hiram White, Josh Zettergren and if today helped them.
Yes it helps. They will be expected to help contribute in the fall. Shay caught the ball really well today. Josh looked good today.
Talk about Jamie Phillips.
I am really pleased with Jamie Phillips’ effort. He’s a walk-on, and he’s played first team all spring. He’s a pleasant surprise. He is definitely going to play for us next year. Hopefully he’ll be in the mix to start. We expect him to compete. We don’t know how the linebacking corps is going to be. I do not believe we were very physical in the middle today. We are missing a nosetackle and Patrick Willis in the middle.
