QB Cliff Davis Leaving Ole Miss Football Squad

4/9/2007 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron announced Monday that quarterback Cliff Davis has decided to leave the Rebel football squad. "Cliff informed us of his decision to no longer be a part of our football program and we wish him well," Orgeron said. After spending three years in the Houston Astros organization, Davis gave up his baseball career and joined the Rebels as a non-scholarship player prior to the 2006 football season. A 6-5, 221-pound freshman from Eupora, Miss., Davis did not see any action and was redshirted, which left him with four years of eligibility remaining. Davis originally signed a football scholarship with University of Alabama in 2003, but chose to begin a professional baseball career. He compiled an outstanding prep career at Eupora High School and as a senior passed for 1,938 yards and 29 touchdowns, while passing for 1,553 yards and 21 TDs his junior season.
