The Rebels recently completed another great year in the NCAA “Sweet Sixteen.” They hosted a regional for the seventh consecutive year and defeated
Ole Miss captured its sixth straight SEC Western Division Championship in a year when three teams from the West finished in the top 15 in the country. Overall, the SEC placed six teams in the Top 25, led by No. 1 Georgia.
The Rebels posted a 24-5 overall record, the program’s 10th 20-win season. They did not have a loss outside the top 15. In addition to winning the West, the Rebels finished second overall in the SEC standings to NCAA Champion Georgia and reached the SEC Tournament final for the second year in a row and third time in four years.
Ole Miss has become one of the toughest places to play for opponents. The Rebels went undefeated (14-0) at home in 2007 and have won 44 of their last 45 regular season home matches dating back to April 6, 2003.
“We had another outstanding year,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “It was a total team effort from top to bottom in the lineup. “There is a lot more parity in college tennis now, so it is a credit to the players who come here that we have been able to sustain our position among the top teams in the nation every year.”
Under Chadwick, the Rebels have made 14 consecutive NCAA appearances, and have reached the NCAA Finals (1995), as well as making the Final Four four times.
