5/8/2007 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - As Ole Miss prepares for its trip to the SEC Tournament and a showdown with No. 1-ranked Tennessee on Thursday, one Rebel has been honored for her work off the field as junior Lauren Rowe was named to the SEC Softball Community Service Team by the league office on Tuesday.
The Southeastern Conference sponsors community service teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
Rowe has been heavily involved in the Oxford and Ole Miss communities for the past three years. She has served as an officer for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and participated in Reading with the Rebels and National Student-Athlete Day activities with Oxford elementary students.
The Quitman, Ga., native has also been involved with the Oxford Food Pantry, including its annual canned food drive. She has additionally been a volunteer with the Special Olympics and helped with fundraisers for local police officers.
