Ole Miss Women's Tennis Inks Russian Standout

6/13/2007 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team added another player to its signing class for the 2007-08 academic year, as Yana Kireeva of Moscow, Russia, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Lady Rebels, head coach Mark Beyers announced Wednesday.

“We are extremely excited about Yana joining our program,” Beyers said. Even though she is only 17 years old, she will bring a lot of experience with her on the international level.”

Kireeva has been ranked as high as No. 140 in the ITF World Junior Rankings.  In the last year, she has defeated five players ranked in the top 100 in the ITF World Junior Rankings, including Lyudmila Kichenok (No. 30), Nadyia Kichenok (No. 43), Valeria Solovieva (No. 55) and Alexandra Kolesnichenko (No. 64).

“After inking Laura van der Stroet and Karen Nijssen (both from Holland) earlier, this might end up being one of the strongest recruiting classes ever for Ole Miss,” Beyers added.
