SOUTHERN MISS NOTES
Southern Miss drops to 8-16 in NCAA Tournament games, in their eighth Regional appearance.
The Golden Eagles fell to 3-3 in extra-inning contests this season.
The Golden Eagles have reached double figures in hits in eight of the last 12 games and 11 of the last 16.
Sophomore LF Luke Adkins notched the first four-hit game of his career and collected two doubles for the second time this season (3/23 vs. Rice).
Junior 3B Chris Matesich also registered the first four-hit game of his career and knocked out his third career home run with an 11th-inning solo blast, his first homer since the 2005 season.
Senior RHP Ryan Belanger made his first relief appearance of the season after 16 games started.

The Bearkats improved to 5-7 in NCAA Tournament games, in their fourth Regional appearance. They also won twice in the 1987 Austin Regional.
The Bearkats improved to 40-23 on the year, marking the second time in the school's Division I history to notch 40 wins. The 1987 team won a school-record 44 games.
Sam Houston improved to 2-0 in extra-inning games this year.
Sam Houston scored six runs in the seventh and eighth innings to erase a 7-1 Southern Miss lead. After Southern went ahead 9-7 in the top of the ninth, the Bearkats answered with two in the bottom to send it to extra innings. Both teams scored once in the 10th.
The Bearkats came from behind to tie or go ahead four times in the game.
Junior CF Keith Stein registered a game-high five hits, including the game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 11th.
Junior LF Bobby Verbick's game-winning hit over the centerfielder's head in the bottom of the 11th went for a single.
