Postgame Quotes: Southern Miss vs. Sam Houston State
6/3/2007 | Baseball
SOUTHERN MISS
HEAD COACH CORKY PALMER
Opening Comment
"Today was just a great college baseball game. You have to give a lot of credit to Sam Houston. They played well and did what they had to do to win. It was a tough loss, but today just wasn't our time. We played hard and competed, so I'm proud of our team. We've had a great year and regional."
On the season:
"I'm very proud of our guys this year. They had a tremendous year. A month ago, no one gave us a chance to be in a regional and we competed to get here. We've played hard all year and had a tremendous season."
On the bullpen:
"Our bullpen has been lights-out all year. Without the performance of our bullpen this season, we wouldn't even be in a regional. I'm not disappointed in them at all. This is one game. I'm proud of them."
On Sam Houston's offense:
"We walked people and the zone was tight, but you have to adjust. We didn't do that and left the door open and they took advantage of those opportunities. Sam Houston was just hitting the ball well."
SHORTSTOP BRIAN DOZIER
On the loss:
"This was the craziest game I've ever been a part of. Obviously this is a tough loss, but you can't help but think of anything else but the seniors and what they have meant to this team. We give a lot of credit to Sam Houston. Both teams played well, but they came out on top."
RELIEF PITCHER TYLER CONN
On the pitching staff's performance:
"I was throwing some good pitches, but they were putting the ball in play. We had two different opportunities to win this game and couldn't finish it out."
THIRD BASEMAN CHRIS MATESICH
On his performance:
"I felt pretty good and hit the ball hard. The team had a lot of hits and was seeing the ball well. We just came up short."
Sam Houston did not meet with the media as they prepared for the evening game.
