Former Rebel Netter All-American Wins Consecutive Titles

7/1/2007 | Men's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. -- Former Rebel netter and three-time All-American, Catalin Gard, captured his second consecutive Futures title Sunday, winning the F9 Tournament in Romania. This marked his fourth singles title of the year.

Twice during this tournament, Gard came back from a set down to win the match before defeating Italy’s Federico Torresi, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

Gard entered the latest tournament as the top seed after taking home the title the week before, also in his native country, Romania.  He has now won three times in Romania this year and once in Egypt.

Since the beginning of 2007, Gard has jumped up nearly 300 points in the ATP Rankings.  He came into this week at No. 371 in the world.

While at Ole Miss, Gard was ranked No. 1 in the nation and led the Rebels to consecutive SEC Championships in 2004 and 2005 as well as the NCAA Final Four as a senior in 2005.
