Ole Miss Holds Football Media Day
8/13/2007 | Football
For the second time this preseason, practice was open to the media, as the Rebels worked out for three hours in the morning. Players were in full pads and focused primarily on conditioning and position drills.
Following lunch for the team and reporters in the Indoor Practice Facility, Ole Miss third-year head coach Ed Orgeron kicked off Media Day ceremonies with a 30-minute press conference, where he expressed his excitement over the mental and physical attributes of his club this camp.
"I really love the attitude of this football team and coaching staff," said Orgeron. "We’ve been working very hard in conditions that will be similar to those in which we’ll be playing. We had a fantastic scrimmage at 2:30 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the turf (Saturday), and our guys performed very well. We’re going to continue to put them in those circumstances so they can perform in those playing conditions."
Orgeron also addressed the battle for starting duties under center.
"Our quarterback position is still open," he said. "They are all competing out there. On Saturday, Seth Adams had a better scrimmage than the other guys. Today, one of the other quarterbacks may have had a better scrimmage. It’s going to remain an open race. Just because he is pulling away, doesn’t mean he is going to win. We’re going to give time for the race to finish, so we can make a great decision on our quarterback."
Following the press conference, players took part in an hour interview session, sitting down with writers before going one-on-one on camera with local television stations. Twenty-two media outlets and around 40 representatives were in attendance at Monday’s event.
Ole Miss two-a-day drills resume Tuesday and will conclude Saturday, when Meet the Rebels Day is conducted in the IPF. Fans will have the opportunity to pick up autographs, posters and other Rebel merchandise, while coaches address the crowd.
