Rebels Practice Inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium On Wednesday

“We had a lot better practice today, said Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron. “The guys had a lot better tempo. We got a lot of work done today. We practice on the turf inside the stadium. I though our run game really gelled today.”
Orgeron noted the play of the quarterbacks, particularly that of senior Brent Schaeffer.

Orgeron also explained what freshman linebacker Chris Strong, who was certified eligible by the NCAA earlier in the day, brings to the Rebel defense.
“He is a physical player. He has good instincts. Obliviously there are some things he has to get better at, but he is probably our best middle linebacker, right now. I would like him to be a little bit lighter and there are some things he has to learn, but he overcomes that with his physical tools.”

In addition, the university announced that defensive lineman Jerrell Powe is being permitted to practice with the team until a final determination on his initial eligibility is received from the NCAA. Last year the NCAA determined Powe did not meet its initial eligibility requirements, which put him in a different position than prospects that have not yet completed the NCAA Clearinghouse evaluation process. The NCAA is reviewing information recently submitted by Powe.
