OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss senior libero Tara Langley was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week following her performance at the SMU Radisson Invitational over the weekend, the league office announced on Monday.
Langley played in every game of the four-match tournament for the Rebels, helping lead Ole Miss to a 3-1 record on the weekend. The loss to Baylor in the third match of the weekend was the first loss of the season for the Rebels. With the 2-0 start to the tournament, the Rebels won nine-straight matches to open the season for the first time in school history, besting the 8-0 start to the 1979 season.
Langley averaged 5.92 digs per game on the weekend, including a match-high 21 digs against the hosting Mustangs of SMU. She also posted 19 digs against Baylor. She was named Libero of the Tournament for her efforts on the back row in the four matches.
Ole Miss will return to action on Wednesday when the Rebels will host the Tigers of LSU at 7 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
