Handicap Parking Expanded, Shuttle Added for Football Games
9/20/2007 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has added new designated handicap parking areas for football games and is offering shuttles from one lot to key areas near Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
More than 190 parking spaces are being set aside in the MDOT lot at the intersection of Highway 6 and Old Taylor Road for handicap parking. The area, in the south end of the lot, is to be marked with standard ADA signs.
Shuttles are to run continuously from this area to three tents near the stadium, beginning four hours before kickoff and continuing until 90 minutes after each game. The shuttles are to be available Saturday (Sept. 22) for the Florida game and for all remaining games this season, said Andrew Mullins, executive assistant to the chancellor.
Also, any space on campus - except lots reserved for UMAA Foundation parking - marked for handicap access only is reserved for handicap use on football weekends. But shuttle service is provided only to and from the handicap shuttle tent in the MDOT lot.
Following are guidelines for using the ADA parking area in the MDOT lot and the stadium shuttle:
- To gain access, proper identification - including the state issued handicap credential, proper picture identification and the person issued the credential - must be presented.
- Each vehicle with an ADA credential will be given two ADA shuttle wristbands (one for the person designated by the ADA credential and one for a guest to assist).
- To ride the ADA shuttle from the MDOT lot to the stadium, you must get to the shuttle tent at the south end of the lot.
- Shuttle service is not available to the Grove or any other parking lot.
- Two shuttles will be designated for each tent at the stadium. A tent manager will help guests get on the proper shuttle to get them to the desired stadium gate.
- To ride the ADA shuttle from the stadium to the MDOT lot, you must get to one of the shuttle tents at the stadium. Chairs will be available while you wait for the shuttle.
