Rebel Track And Field Competes At Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The Ole Miss track and field teams featured one individual champion and 22 others who placed in the top-10 of their respective events as the Rebels competed Friday afternoon at the Arkansas Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.

 

Lady Rebel freshman LaJada Baldwin claimed the only individual title of the afternoon for Ole Miss as she took home first place honors with a time of 23.95 in the 200 meter dash.  Baldwin nearly won her second title of the meet as she took second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.52.  Junior Kadeshia Fortune placed seventh in the 60 meter dash with her time of 7.63. 

 

Ole Miss senior Kenyata Coleman finished in third place in the 60 meter dash consolation with a time of 7.66.  Coleman also earned a fifth place finish in the 200 meter championship with her time of 24.35.  In the 800 meters, junior Lindsay Doucett recorded a third place showing with a time of 2:13.26.  Freshman Julie Little earned a 10th place finish in the one mile run with a time of 5:35.66. 

 

Senior Francis Vital turned in a third place showing with a time of 8.90 in the 60 meter hurdles consolation.  Vital also took 10th in the high jump with a mark of 5-00.25.  Fellow senior Carmia Carroll finished in second place in the high jump with a mark of 5-06.00 before taking ninth in the triple jump with her mark of 37-08.75.  Not far behind, freshman Rachel Jenkins took 10th place in the triple jump with a mark of 37-05.00. 

 

In the shot put, freshman Betty Williams posted a 10th place finish with a distance of 40-00.50, while fellow freshman Juliana Smith took eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 45-03.75. 

 

Both of Ole Miss’ relay teams recorded good showing as the women’s 4x400 meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 3:42.36.  The men’s 4x400 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 3:15.52. 

 

On the men’s side, senior Rickie Bratton finished in fourth place in the 200 meter dash championship with a personal best time of 21.76.  In the 200 meter dash, junior Michael Coleman was Ole Miss’ top finisher as the Ashburn, Va., native took fifth with a time of 22.22. 

 

Sophomore Edin Pasalic earned a third place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.62.  Junior distance runner Barnabas Kirui finished in eighth place in the mile run with a time of 4:15.21.  Fellow junior Kyle Lewis posted a new personal best time of 8:32.79 in the 3000 meters to take home second place honors. 

 

In the 60 meter hurdles, junior Justin Gunn recorded a time of 8.42 to finish in seventh place. 

 

In field events, two Rebels recorded personal bests in the long jump beginning with junior Wale Odetunde’s distance of 24-07.00 to earn a third place finish.  Odetunde also recorded a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 48-04.00.  Gunn also reached a new personal best mark in the long jump with a distance of 24-05.75 to take fifth place. 

 

The Ole Miss track and field teams return to action Jan. 25 to take on Arkansas State from Jonesboro, Ark.
