Rebel Netter Advances To Semis At SEC Indoor

NEW ORLEANS -- Junior Jonas Berg of the Ole Miss men’s tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the “B” Draw at the SEC Indoor Championships Saturday at the Health Club in the Hilton. Two Rebel doubles’ teams made the quarterfinals. After a first round bye, Berg downed LSU’s Ryan Lissner in the second round, and then defeated In the “A” Draw, Ole Miss had two players reach the quarterfinals before falling. Sophomore Kalle Norberg came back to defeat Jeff Dadamo of Florida, 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-3 in the second round, before falling to one of Mississippi State’s top two players, Ivan Bjelica, in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3). The top two seeds in the tournament fell on the same day, including Ole Miss’ Matthias Wellermann, the No. 2 seed. Wellermann downed Alex Lacroix of Ole Miss placed two teams in the final eight of doubles. The senior duo of Jakob Klaeson and Robbye Poole knocked out the fourth-seeded team of Colt Gaston and Michael Venus (LSU), 9-8(4). Wellermann and junior Bram ten Berge downed LSU’s Lissner and Sebastian Carlsson, 8-3 to move onto the quarterfinals. The SEC Indoor is the top individual tournament of the spring, featuring the best players in the country in singles and doubles.
