OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss men’s tennis team remained at No. 5 in Tuesday’s ITA National Rankings as they get set to face two more nationally ranked teams this weekend in Tulsa.
The Rebels (1-1) are coming off a tough loss to No. 3 Ohio State last Saturday. The top 10 remained unchanged with Virginia holding down the top spot, followed by Georgia, Ohio State, Baylor and Ole Miss. The rest of the top 10 includes Southern California, Texas, Illinois, UCLA and North Carolina.
Against Ohio State, the Rebels held a 2-0 lead after winning the doubles and senior Erling Tveit’s win at No. 1 singles. The Buckeyes won five of seven tiebreakers in singles, including three crucial ones at Nos. 3 and 4 singles to come back and take the win.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier this weekend with two matches on the road against No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Tulsa. The Rebels will battle the Cowboys Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, while Sunday they take on the Hurricanes at 1 p.m.
Following this weekend’s matches, the Rebels will face arch-rival Mississippi State in the annual River Hills Mississippi Cup in Jackson, Miss. The two teams will square off Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. at the River Hills Club. To order tickets call (601) 987-4438.
