11/12/2008 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. Pete Kellermann of Jacksonville, Fla., and Thomas Watkins of Madison, Miss., have signed national letters of intent to join the Ole Miss men's golf program beginning in the 2009-10 year head coach Ernest Ross announced Wednesday.
"We are very happy and excited to have Pete Kellermann and Thomas Watkins joining our team for the 2009-10 season," Ross said. "I am looking forward to having both players at Ole Miss next fall."
Kellermann, who attends the same high school (Bishop Kenny) as current Rebel freshman Sean Dale, won the AJGA Jerry Pate/Andrews Institute Southern Junior in July of 2007, with rounds of 70-69-65. He has four top-20 finishes in AJGA events.
"Pete won an AJGA tournament in 2007 and had several top finishes in 2008 against the best competition in America. Pete is a long hitter and projects to be a top college player in his first year here. He has solid swing fundamentals that will allow him to make good progress at this next level of competitive golf."
Watkins is the son of former Rebel All-American Randy Watkins. The younger Watkins finished second in the 2008 Mississippi Golf Association Pros of Tomorrow Tournament and won the 2008 5A Mississippi State High School Championship as a junior at Madison Central.
"Thomas is a tough competitor that understands many of the nuances of playing championship golf. He also has good swing fundamentals and we project he will be a strong contributor in college. Thomas has great heart and a never-say-die attitude on the course."
Last year's signing class of Sean Dale and Joe David is currently ranked the fourth best freshmen class in the nation by Golfstat.
