BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After helping the Rebels to bowl eligibility on Saturday, Ole Miss' Michael Oher was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league announced today.
A senior tackle from Memphis, Oher graded out at 82 percent with one knockdown block and eight finishes in the 59-0 win blanking of ULM. The Rebels gained 520 total offensive yards, including 350 yards rushing against the Warhawks.
In 65 offensive plays, Oher's line lost yardage on only two plays and allowed no sacks. Ole Miss scored on nine of 13 offensive drives against ULM and converted 8 of 12 on third downs.
A Rotary Lombardi Award semifinalist and Outland Trophy candidate, Oher was a consensus Midseason All-America First Team honoree and is projected by USA Today, Yahoo and Pro Football Weekly to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. He has started 44 straight games and has helped Ole Miss rank third in the SEC in both rushing offense and fewest sacks allowed this year.
Oher picks up the Rebels' sixth weekly award from the conference this year and the first of his career. He is the second offensive lineman honoree as Maurice Miller took home POW accolades following the Auburn game.
The Rebels take their 6-4 record and three-game win streak to No. 18 LSU this weekend in the first playing of the Magnolia Bowl. The game will be televised nationally on CBS with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
