OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women's basketball team gets its first taste of live game action when the Rebels host DT-3 in an exhibition contest Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. from Tad Smith Coliseum. Admission to both of the Rebels' exhibition games is free to the public.
Guided by second-year head coach Renee Ladner, the Rebels return four starters from last year's team that posted a 6-8 record inside the SEC. In addition, Ole Miss returns 74 percent of the team's scoring and 73 percent of its minutes.
Highlighting the group of returnees is senior center Shawn Goff. Goff, a preseason All-SEC first team selection, enters the season as one of the top post players in the conference. The Tallahassee, Fla., native ended last season ranked first on the team and 12th in the SEC with 13.0 points per game. Goff was also 13th in the league in rebounds (6.8) and second in blocked shots (2.31).
In the backcourt, junior Shantell Black returns as the league's top distributor as she finished her sophomore campaign averaging 5.03 assists per game, marking the first time since 1986 that an Ole Miss player paced the league in assists. Tuesday night also marks the highly anticipated return of sophomore Alliesha Easley, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury. As a freshman in 2006-07, Easley started all 35 games for the Rebels and finished the season averaging 11 points per game on her way to earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
DT-3 Exhibition Travel Team was formed in August 2005 in Tallahassee, Fla., and competes against some of the nation's top collegiate programs during the NCAA Division I exhibition season.
Tuesday's game against Ole Miss will be the second exhibition game of the season for DT-3. In its most recent outing, DT-3 fell 76-67 Sunday at Louisiana Tech. In that game, DT-3 was led by Tyesha Lowery, who finished the game with 19 points, while Lauren Riley-Varley tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Ole Miss will play a second exhibition game Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as the Rebels welcome Christian Brother University to Tad Smith Coliseum.
