Rebels Coast To 84-47 Win Over Christian Brothers
11/9/2008 | Women's Basketball
Ole Miss forced 22 Christian Brothers turnovers and turned those miscues into 30 points. Sophomore guard Alliesha Easley led the way for the Rebels as she tallied six steals, including a stretch of three consecutive thefts in a matter of 24 seconds midway through the first half. Easley finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists to go along with her steals.
Junior guard Bianca Thomas paced the Rebels with 17 points and eight rebounds, while senior center Shawn Goff tallied 11 points and eight rebounds of her own. Freshman Nikki Byrd turned in 10 points, three rebounds and two block shots to round out a quartet of Rebels in double figures.
Goff and Byrd led a balanced attack in the post that saw the Rebels hold a 40-6 advantage in points in the paint. The size discrepancy also helped Ole Miss record 27 offensive rebounds and 22 second chance points.
Christian Brothers guard Tanaeya Worden was the only Lady Buccaneer to score in double figures as she finished with a team-high 11 points.
Ole Miss and Christian Brothers battled back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Rebels, however, used a 17-0 run in just over two minutes to open up an 18-point lead. During the run, Ole Miss forced seven turnovers by constant trapping in the back court.
The Rebels finished the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 23-point lead in the dressing room. Ole Miss continued its pressure defense in the second half as the Rebels would lead by as many as 40 points en route to their second straight exhibition win.
Ole Miss opens the regular season Saturday when the Rebels travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on North Carolina A&T in the Winthrop Tournament.
