Stadium On Track for Baseball Opening Day
2/19/2008 | Baseball
As forecasted in the last update, the infrastructure behind the stadium's grandstand is in place, and the concourse has been repaved. On Tuesday, trailers will be set up for ticket and souvenir sales at the main stadium entrance, where the ticket office has previously been located.
The primary entrance for fans will remain in the front of the stadium, beside the new ticket trailer. A second entry gate will be located down the third baseline.
By Wednesday, the final provisions will be made for field lights, video board and public address operation. At that point, a primary objective for workers will be preparing the new bullpens for game action.
For fans in right field, the area will have some minimal restrictions at the season's start. The southern-most tier of the lounge will be fenced off for the first month of the season while a retaining wall is built.
The left field seating area remains intact, although a new policy has been put in place for the 2008 season and postseason regarding personal chairs. Any person with a ticket entering the Oakes Pavillion seating area can bring in a maximum of four chairs per entry. Persons in the reserved tent and BBQ areas cannot bring in more chairs during their early entry time period than they have tickets for in that reserved area.
Parking will remain the same as previous seasons, although more spaces could become available as the university completes its overhaul of the lots across Old Taylor Road from the field.
The current stadium construction is the first of a three-phase plan designed by architects Cooke Douglass Farr Lemons and contracted to the Panola Construction Company. Key information from the athletics deparment's weekly progress meetings on the renovation will continue to be provided to the public on OleMissSports.com.
