Lady Rebel Netters To Host South Alabama Friday

2/20/2008 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team will host 57th-ranked South Alabama Friday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, weather permitting.  Incase of inclement weather, the match will be played indoors at the Gillom Sports Center.

The Lady Rebels, who have played all their matches indoors so far, come in with a 4-3 record, perfect at home.

South Alabama remained undefeated (5-0) on the season with a 5-2 win over Winthrop last Sunday.

“Traditionally they (USA) have a solid team, and this year is no different.  We’ve had many tight matches against them.  We haven’t lost at home yet this season, so hopefully we can keep that intact.”

Ole Miss is coming off a tough 5-2 loss to Iowa on the road last Sunday.  The Lady Rebels had match points to clinch the doubles point and couldn’t convert, as Iowa carried that momentum into singles play, winning four of the matches.

“We served for the doubles point and didn’t get it,” Beyers said.  “I think that definitely had an impact on our play in singles.  We have to figure out a way to turn those situations in our favor regardless of what happens.”

Freshman Karen Nijssen (6-1) suffered her first loss of the season in the Iowa match.  Senior Preethi Subramanian and freshman Laura van de Stroet have won four in a row at No. 5 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Admission to all home matches is free.
