Ole Miss Women's Tennis To Host Louisville Sunday

2/7/2008 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team will host Louisville Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.  Admission is free.

The Lady Rebels picked up two wins last weekend to improve to 3-2 on the season.  Senior Nika Koukhartchouk earned SEC Player of the Week honors.  The Kaliningrad, Russia native, went 4-0 in singles and doubles last weekend to lead the Lady Rebels to wins against Southern University and Troy.  In the match against Troy, she rallied to knock off 65th-ranked Annabelle Bares in three sets at No. 1 singles.

Playing the No. 1 position for the first time in her career, Koukhartchouk is a combined 8-2 in doubles and singles.  She has teamed with freshman Karen Nijssen for a 4-1 record at No.1 doubles.

Louisville, under first-year coach Mark Beckham, comes into the weekend at 3-2 also, with their two losses coming to Notre Dame (6-1) and Kentucky (4-3).  Last weekend they earned 7-0 wins over Cincinnati and Eastern Kentucky.  The Cardinals are led by sophomore Lauren Imre, who is 2-3 this season at No. 1 singles.

“We did a great job last weekend in doubles and then carried it over into singles,” head coach Mark Beyers said.  “We are improving each week, and it was evident against our last two opponents.  Louisville has a solid team.  They’ve played Notre Dame and Kentucky tough, so we’ll be ready.”

For anyone not able to attend the match, live scoring is available at www.OleMissSports.com.
