OXFORD, Miss.  The Ole men’s golf team was named the Team of the Week by Golfweek, after winning the Linger-Longer Invitational Sunday at Reynolds Landing in Greensboro, Ga.

The Rebels’ victory was their first of the spring and fourth this season. Ole Miss posted rounds of 277-292-287 for an 8-under 856 total and a 5-shot win over No. 2 Georgia.

Seniors David Marino and Kyle Ellis gave the Rebels a huge boost with their heroics on the back nine Sunday.

Ellis stood on the tee at the par-5 14th hole and watched Marino hole out his second shot for eagle on the par-4 13th.  A few minutes later, Ellis trumped that.  From the middle of the fairway and 220 yards away from a tucked back pin, Ellis hit a slight cut shot with his hybrid club. The ball landed on the front of the green and rolled into the hole for a double-eagle 2.

Marino tied for third with his best 54-hole score (213), including a career-low 67 in the first round.  Ellis and freshman Jonathan Randolph tied for sixth with a 215.

The Rebels are back in action April 7-8 as they host the Bank of America Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf Club.
