Ole Miss Women's Tennis To Host SEC East Foes

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole women’s tennis team will host SEC East foes Vanderbilt and Kentucky this weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, in their final home matches of the season.

 

On Friday, the Lady Rebels welcome No. 11 Vanderbilt for a 4 p.m. match.  Fans in attendance will receive free chicken compliments of Bofields. 

 

The Commodores are 13-3 overall and 3-3 in the SEC.  They are coming off a 4-3 win over Alabama on the road last Sunday.  Amanda Taylor leads the Commodores, coming in ranked No. 22 with a 12-4 record at No. 1 singles.  Vanderbilt also boasts three other players in the national singles rankings.

 

On Sunday, the Lady Rebels will face No. 23 Kentucky at Noon on Senior Day.  The team will honor seniors Nika Koukhartchouk, Mimi Renaudin and Preethi Subramanian, who will be playing their final match at the tennis center. 

 

Kentucky comes into the weekend at 11-5 and 2-3 in the SEC.  They are coming off a 4-3 win over Auburn last Sunday.  The Wildcats are led by No. 83-ranked Sarah Woestmann and the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, Megan Broderick. 

 

Fans coming to Sunday’s match will receive a free Ole Miss Tennis ball.

 

Freshman Karen Nijssen will look to continue her fine play this season, as she leads the Lady Rebels with a 10-6 dual match record, including going 1-1 in her first time at No.1 singles last weekend.    She also teams with Koukhartchouk for a 5-1 record in the SEC at No. 1 doubles.

 

Admission to all home matches is free.
