OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss Rebel softball will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to the face No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend at the Alabama Softball Complex. The Rebels and the Tide will play a double header on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude the three-game set on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Ole Miss (15-17, 0-11 SEC) enters the three-game series in search of its first SEC victory of the season after dropping both games of a double header to the No. 21 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Rebels are led by sophomore third baseman Lauren Grill, who smashed her fifth home run of the season on Wednesday against Georgia. Grill leads the Rebels with a .344 batting average, 18 runs scored, 10 doubles, five home runs, and 24 runs batted in. Her 10 doubles on the season ties Grill for third in the conference.
Freshman Lindsey Perry leads the Rebels with a 1.33 ERA, while sophomore Becky Nye has a team-high six wins and 74 strike outs on the season.
Alabama (28-3, 9-2) enters the series against Ole Miss ranked No. 2 in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association and No. 3 nationally by USA Softball. The Tide swept a three-game series from Kentucky last weekend before knocking off UAB 8-1 on Tuesday.
Alabama is led by Brittany Rogers, who leads the SEC with a .505 batting average on the year. Charlotte Morgan has a team-high seven home runs and 38 RBI. Kelsi Dunne leads the squad with a 1.41 ERA, 12 wins and 121 strike outs.
Ole Miss trails Alabama 36-2 in the all-time series. The last Rebel victory came over the then No. 11 ranked Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa in 2005. Alabama has won the last eight meetings between the SEC West foes.
