Ole Miss Drops Final Two Games To Alabama

3/30/2008 | Softball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The Ole Miss Rebel softball team dropped the final two games of the series to the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide on Sunday at the Alabama Softball Complex. The Rebels lost both games by a score of 8-0 in five innings.

The Rebels (15-20, 0-14 SEC) dropped the second game of the three-game series 8-0 to Alabama (31-3, 12-2 SEC) in five innings. The game started on Saturday, but after a 75-minute rain delay officials suspended play and postponed the game until Sunday at noon.

The Crimson Tide jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first highlighted by Lauren Parker’s two-RBI double to center. Starting pitcher Charlotte Morgan laid down a sac bunt later in the inning to score Parker and give Alabama the early 3-0 lead before play was suspended.

After play resume on Sunday Alabama added to the lead after Kelly Montalvo hit a three-run home run in the bottom third inning off starting pitcher Lindsey Perry. Perry gave up back-to-back singles after the home run before being replaced by Becky Nye. Nye would surrender an RBI single to Brittany Rogers to give the Crimson Tide a 7-0 lead before retiring the side.

Ashley Dowdy tripled to right-center field in the top of the fourth inning, but she was stranded at third. Dowdy finished the day 1-for-2 with a triple.

Lauren Grill, Lauren Rowe and Amber Tramp also added singles for the Rebel offense.

Ashely Holcombe hit a solo home run to center in the bottom of the fifth for the 8-0 run-rule victory for the Tide.

Perry (4-5) pitched 2.1 innings in the loss. She surrendered six hits and seven runs. Nye entered in the third and pitched the final 1.2 innings. She struck out three batters and issued no walks.

Morgan (7-0) went the distance for Alabama in the win. She allowed four hits in her 5.0 innings of work.

The Crimson Tide added four more runs in the fourth inning. Morgan doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a bunt single. Another bunt single scored Ashley Holcombe, who had singled earlier in the inning. The Tide added runs on a double and a ground out to end the inning.
