Lady Rebels Earn National Ranking In Doubles

3/4/2008 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team received some good news Tuesday, as its No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Nika Koukhartchouk and freshman Karen Nijssen broke into the national rankings for the first time, coming in at No. 32.

The pair earned two huge wins last weekend to vault into the rankings.  On Friday they defeated the No. 2 team in the nation (Tennessee) and then on Sunday, they beat the No. 21-ranked team (Georgia).

Koukhartchouk and Nijssen head into the second week of SEC play at 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference at the top spot for the Lady Rebels.  Koukhartchouk is a combined 13-7 in her first season at No. 1 doubles and singles.  Nijssen is 7-3 at No. 2 singles.

The Lady Rebels return to action this weekend with two key SEC West matches, at Auburn on Friday and at Alabama on Sunday.
