Lady RebelsTo Conclude Regular Season At Mississippi State

4/10/2008 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team, who moved up to No. 52 in this week’s national rankings, will conclude the regular season Saturday against arch-rival Mississippi State.  The two teams will square off at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville.

The Lady Rebels split their matches last weekend, knocking off No. 14 Arkansas before falling to No. 30 LSU 6-1 on Sunday.    In its last three matches, Ole Miss has knocked off two Top 25 opponents.

Freshman Karen Nijssen, ranked No. 99 in the nation, continues to lead the team with an 11-7 record at No. 2 singles.   She also teams with senior Nika Koukhartchouk for a 7-3 record at No.1 doubles and a No. 32 ranking.

Mississippi State comes into the match searching for its first SEC victory of the season.  In their last outing, the Bulldogs lost to LSU 5-1 in a match that was suspended due to rain and completed on Wednesday.

Ole Miss has won 18 in a row against Mississippi State, including last year’s 4-1 win in Oxford.  The last time the Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss, came back in 1989 under current Florida men’s head coach Andy Jackson.  Since that time, State has had five different coaches.
