Ladner Adds Two More To 2008 Signing Class

4/16/2008 | Women's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. After inking two outstanding players during the early signing period, Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Renee Ladner announced Wednesday that both Whitney Hameth and Tori Slusher have signed national letters of intent to play for the Lady Rebels beginning in the 2008-09 season.

An athletic 5-foot-10 guard by way of Dumas, Ark., Hameth arrives in Oxford via Dumas High School where she played for four years under Lady Bobcats’ head coach Glory Slater.  Following two quality years as an underclassman, Hameth produced a breakout year as junior and led the Lady Bobcats to the Class 4A semifinals after averaging 21.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists en route to being named the Pine Bluff Commercial’s Player of the Year.

Hameth went on to improve her production as a senior as she finished her final campaign as a Lady Bobcat by averaging 28.2 points per game, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while helping her team to a 8-4A Conference championship and a berth in the state semifinals.  At the conclusion of the season, Hameth was once again honored by earning the Pine Bluff Commercial’s Player of the Year plaudits.

During her time with the Lady Bobcats, Hameth’s teams produced a 76-17 overall record, finished 43-1 in the 8-4A, won three conference titles and made two trips to the state semifinals.  In addition, she finished her career with school records for most points (46), rebounds (18) and three-pointers (8) in a single game.

“Whitney is a very athletic guard who plays tenacious defense,” Ladner said.  “We recruited her to be a shooter, but she also possesses several other weapons because of her ability to get to the rim.  I think she will compliment our team very nicely.”

Slusher, a 6-foot-3 post player from Wichita Falls, Texas, makes her way to Oxford following two seasons in junior college at Midland College.  As a freshman for the Lady Chaparrals, Slusher averaged 5.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while leading the team with 27 blocked shots in 31 games played.

An All-Conference and All-Regional player as a senior after averaging 11.2 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, Slusher helped lead the Lady Chaps to a 31-6 overall record and a Regional Tournament championship.  In addition, Slusher played an instrumental role in helping Midland College to a fifth place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament.

“Tori Slusher will add depth for us in the post,” Ladner said.  “She has an incredible work ethic and is a complete team player.  She also has a great ability to finish well around the basket.”
