Ole Miss Announces Signing Of Keely Stankey

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss rifle head coach Valerie Boothe announced the signing of Keely Stankey on Thursday to a national letter of intent to join program beginning in the 2008-09 academic year.

Stankey joins the Rebels after a successful prep career at Maranatha Christian Academy in Minneapolis, Minn. Stankey was the 2007 Minnesota National Rifle Association smallbore and air rifle open champion and the 2008 State Junior Olympics smallbore champion. She placed 14th in the smallbore at the 2008 U.S. Junior Olympics.

A member of her local American Legion Post, Stankey finished seventh at the 2006 American Legion Precision Air Rifle Nationals. She took first place for sporter air rifle at the 2003 National Guard Championship, becoming the youngest competitor ever to win the title. She also won the Daisy Air Rifle National Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Stankey is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named to the High Honor Roll at her high school. She is also a member of the National Honor Roll and has been named to Who’s Who in American High School Students.

“We are very excited that Keely is joining our program,” said Boothe. “She has shown a lot of promise and is highly competitive. We hope that she will be a big contributor for us and help push our returning players.”
