4/28/2008 | Football

CHARLOTTE -- Former Ole Miss Rebel Brandon Jenkins signed an NFL free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers, the organization announced Tuesday.

A defensive lineman from Memphis, Jenkins played in 43 games for the Rebels over the past four seasons, earning 16 starts. The 6-foot-4, 281 pounder from Memphis totaled 51 tackles and 7.5 TFLs during his career.

As a junior in 2006, Jenkins made seven starts at nose tackle and finished the season with 21 total stops, 4.5 TFLs and two fumble recoveries, which tied for seventh in the SEC. He earned Rebel Quarterback Club Trench Player of the Week honors twice that year.

Jenkins is the ninth former Ole Miss player to join the Carolina franchise, including current Panthers Ken Lucas and Keydrick Vincent and five-time Pro Bowl tight end Wesley Walls. Other Rebels formerly with the Panthers include John Avery, Taye Biddle, Willie Green, Kris Mangum and Tutan Reyes.
