Rebel Netter Robbye Poole Named SEC Player Of The Week

4/8/2008 | Men's Tennis

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Robbye Poole has been named the SEC Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday.  This marks the second time this season for Poole to receive the honor and the third time in his career.

Poole went 4-0 in doubles and singles to lead Ole Miss to wins over No. 47 Arkansas and No. 16 LSU this past weekend as the Rebels clinched their seventh consecutive SEC West title. He is 4-0 in doubles with Matthias Wellermann since taking the place of injured Bram ten Berge at No. 2 doubles.  The All-American improved to 12-3 at No. 3 singles and 6-4 in the SEC.  He has won five in a row.

Poole was named the SEC Player of the Week back on Feb. 12 after he clinched the Rebels’ 20th straight win over Mississippi State and the team’s ninth consecutive Mississippi Cup.  He earned the honor for the first time in 2007

The Rebels will host arch-rival Mississippi State Saturday at 11 a.m., as they kick off Red/Blue festivities.  Fans can enjoy free hot dogs compliments of Kroger and watch the Rebels in their final regular season match.  It will be Senior Day, and the Rebels will honor their four seniors.
